From Cannes to your living room: new set of TFL Films available for free on Festival Scope

From May 27th to June 9th, we invite you to discover a new bunch of TFL Films available* for free on Festival Scope.

As a tribute to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, the second Special Focus by TorinoFilmLab and the online platform is dedicated to three powerful films that buzzed in the festival’s previous editions: THE WAKHAN FRONT by Clément Cogitore, APPRENTICE by Boo Junfeng and MIMOSAS by Oliver Laxe – who recently won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize 2019 for his new feature film FIRE WILL COME.


THE WAKHAN FRONT by Clément Cogitore (France/Belgium) – 1st feature 
Afghanistan 2014. As the withdrawal of troops approaches, Captain Antarès Bonassieu and his squad have been assigned a surveillance mission in a remote valley of Wakhan, on the border of Pakistan. Despite Antarès and his men's determination, control of the secluded valley will slowly fall out of their hands. One dark night, soldiers begin to mysteriously disappear in the valley.

APPRENTICE by Boo Junfeng (Singapore/France/Germany/Hong Kong/Qatar)
Aiman is a 28-year-old Malay correctional officer who has recently been transferred to the territory's top prison. At his new workplace, Aiman begins to take an interest in a 65-year-old sergeant named Rahim. Soon, it is revealed that the charismatic Rahim is actually the long-serving chief executioner of the prison. Rahim also takes notice of the principled and diligent Aiman. When Rahim's assistant suddenly quits, he asks Aiman to become his apprentice.

MIMOSAS by Oliver Laxe (Spain/Morocco/France/Qatar)
A caravan escorts a dying Sheikh through the Moroccan Atlas. His last wish is to be buried with his loved ones. But death does not wait. The caravaneers, fearful of the mountain pass, refuse to transport the corpse. Ahmed and Saïd, two rogues traveling with the caravan, pretend they know the way and promise to take the corpse to its destiny. In another world, Shakib is chosen to travel to the mountains with a mission: to help the improvised caravaneers.
