TFL Films & Series
June 27, 2019
What a better way to inaugurate the season of summer festivals than with the premiere of the 99th TFL Film?
The Competition of the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is set to welcome the world premiere of LARA, the second feature film of TFL Alumnus Jan-Ole Gerster, developed by Slovenian scriptwriter Blaž Kutin during the very first edition of ScriptLab in 2005.
The film is named after its main character, a woman and mother who just turned 60. Her birthday is a very special day that will culminate in a career-defining piano concert given by her son, Viktor – which surely is no coincidence, since it was her who mapped out and forced Viktor's musical career in the first place. Yet the day does not go as expected and Lara has to discover that Viktor is using the concert to finally free himself from her grip.
LARA is a German co-production bewteen Schiwago Film and STUDIOCANAL. Sales are handled by Munich-based company Beta Cinema, and the cast includes the German acting legend Corinna Harfouch in the leading role.
The world premiere is scheduled on Sunday, June 30th at 5.00 pm, in the beautiful Grand Hall.
Returning to Karlovy Vary after his acclaimed debut OH BOY, Jan-Ole Gerster will competing for the Crystal Globe alongside TFL Alumnus Marko Škop (Slovakia), who is presenting his new feature LET THERE BE LIGHT. For its part, the section Another View will welcome TFL Alumnus Oliver Laxe’s FIRE WILL COME (Cannes - Un Certain Regard 2019).
But that is not all: Dubravka Turić (Croatia), currently developing the script of RHINO within ScriptLab 2019, will introduce her debut feature project TRACES during MIDPOINT’s showcase Works in Development - Feature Launch. The presentation is scheduled on Monday, July 1st at 11.00 am, in the frame of the KVIFF Eastern Promises Industry Days.
We wish a great festival to our Alumni!
