TorinoFilmLab reaches the threshold of 100 films: HOGAR and THE FEVER will compete for the Golden Leopard in Locarno!

July 17, 2019

TorinoFilmLab crossed the threshold of 100 completed films with HOGAR by Maura Delpero (Italy) and A FEBRE by Maya Da-Rin (Brazil): these two first feature films directed by female filmmakers will premiere in the International Competition of the 72nd Locarno Film Festival (7-17 August 2019)!

With HOGAR and A FEBRE, TorinoFilmLab reaches the number of 101 productions – by filmmakers from 49 countries – that went through its development, production and distribution schemes.

HOGAR is the only Italian production vying for the Golden Leopard. The first fiction feature film by Italian-born, Argentina-based filmmaker Maura Delpero is set in an Italian religious center for teen mothers in Buenos Aires, Argentina and explores the life of three different women called to reckon with the various nuances of motherly love. Maura Delpero already won several awards for her previous documentaries, screened at the Torino Film Festival, and received a nomination at the David di Donatello. For four years, she has been teaching cinema in a center for teenage mothers in Buenos Aires, which inspired her to write HOGAR, a “fictional film based on a real documentary situation”.

The film is produced by Campo Cine (Argentina), dispàrte (Italy) and Vivo Film (Italy), in co-production with RAI Cinema (Italy). It was recently awarded with the TFL Audience Design Fund 2019 (€ 40.000): in addition to the distribution grant, the team will also benefit from an Audience Design consultation session with TFL experts to work on innovative strategies to reach audiences, and take part in the TFL Meeting Event 2019 (21-23 November).

A FEBRE is the first feature by Brazilian filmmaker Maya Da-Rin, born in Rio de Janeiro. Her previous films and video installations have been shown and awarded at film festivals and art institutions such as Locarno, DokLeipzig, Toulouse, Guadalajara, São Paulo Art Biennial, MoMA and New Museum NY. A FEBRE follows the story of Justino, a 45 years old Amerindian living in Manaus, an industrial city surrounded by the Amazon rainforest. Taken by a high fever, he starts dreaming about a creature wandering through the forest. On television, the news talks about a wild animal prowling around the neighborhood. Justino believes he is being followed, but he is not sure whether it is by an animal or by a man.

A FEBRE is produced by Tamanduá Vermelho (Brazil) and Enquadramento Produçoes (Brazil), in co-production with Komplizen Film (Germany) and Still Moving (France). The project was developed in ScriptLab 2015 and FeatureLab 2016, and was financially supported through the TFL Co-Production Fund (€ 50.000).
