TFI Torino Film Industry 2019

21-26 November 2019

TFI - Torino Film Industry is an initiative addressed to industry representatives and professionals from all over the world, organized by Film Commission Torino Piemonte and coordinated jointly with Torino Short Film MarketTorinoFilmLab and Torino Film Festival. It is promoted by Museo Nazionale del Cinema and Direzione Generale Cinema, together with Regione Piemonte and Città di Torino, with the support of Compagnia di San Paolo.

The second edition will be held from November 21st to November 26th at Circolo dei Lettori.

The TFI offers a series of activities that include the Torino Short Film Market programme (a 3-day event dedicated to short formats and digital contents, including pitching sessions, market screenings and VR showcase), masterclasses and panels organized by TorinoFilmLab, as well as the Production Days, an initiative organized by Film Commission Torino Piemonte in collaboration with Torino Film Festival, with focus and insights on documentaries, international co-productions, animation and TV series.

A calendar of events representing an excellent opportunity for business, networking and promotion for the various players in the audiovisual market.

The masterclasses organized by TorinoFilmLab are:

Thursday, November 21st – 3.30 pm
New forms of storytelling: writing Virtual Reality projects
Virtual reality has created new forms of storytelling: storyboarding and writing for VR content are completely new disciplines. When creating VR content, one must take into account the autonomy of the public that the 360° view provides, as well as the need to involve a user who is increasingly protagonist and digitally alphabetized. It therefore becomes necessary to experiment with new types of narration and to implement a new language that relies on emotional registers.

Thursday, November 21st – 4.30 pm
Sustainability throughout the whole film industry
It was recently proven that if all the involved players adopt rules for environmental sustainability at the early stages of development, up to the distribution of a film, emissions of as much as 1.120 tons of CO2 could be avoided. The transmission of good practices must take place already during the writing stage, to then accompany the projects throughout their development, production, distribution and promotion. A focus on sustainable writing and post-production, supported by case-studies.

Friday, November 22nd – 2.30 pm
Development laboratories supporting international co-productions
A panel to present two Italian films that benefited from the TorinoFilmLab Funds and that represent two cases of highly successful international co-productions: THE GUEST by Duccio Chiarini, recipient of the TFL Production Award, and MATERNAL by Maura Delpero, supported with the TFL Audience Design Fund.
Featuring the respective producers: Tommaso Arrighi and Alessandro Amato.

Saturday, November 23rd – 2.30 pm
Audience Design: working on audience engagement since the development stage

Audience Design is a new activity aimed at developing innovative strategies for engaging the audiences from the development stage of the film. This new discipline, developed by TorinoFilmLab, aims to offer an academic approach to support all the development phases of a film and optimize the reaching of the audience. The discussion will be supported by the showcasing of successful case studies.
