FICCI 2018: Colombia hosts the world premiere of SAL & welcomes Berlinale-winner THE HEIRESSES

February 28, 2018

The 58th FICCI - Cartagena International Film Festival is kicking off today with no less than 2 TFL Films from the region in its line-up: Colombian SAL by William Vega (World Premiere) & Paraguayan THE HEIRESSES by Marcelo Martinessi (Latin American Premiere)!

The 84th TFL Film is Colombian

The oldest cinematographic event of Latin America will host the world premiere of the latest TFL Film: writer & director William Vega will present his second feature film SAL within the Colombian Official section. The film, “an odyssey whose hero has no home to return to”, follows Heraldo’s search for his missing father. A motorcycle accident leaves him at the bottom of an abyss – but his exterior wounds are just a sign of his scarred soul. Heraldo must erase the traces of his past to return to his own path.

The project has been developed within the two TFL programmes: Script&Pitch 2013 – in parallel with its participation in the Cannes Cinéfondation Residency –, and FrameWork 2014. It also received the ARTE International Prize (€ 6.000) at the TFL Meeting Event 2013. The film is produced by Contravía Films (Colombia), in co-production with Ciné-Sud Promotion (France).

SAL will debut on Friday, 2nd March at 3.10 pm.

The Silver Bear winner comes back to Latin America

Selected in the Official Dramatic section, THE HEIRESSES by Marcelo Martinessi is ready to make its return to its home continent. The recent winner of the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize (awarded to a feature film that opens new perspectives), the Silver Bear for Best Actress (Ana Brun) and the FIPRESCI Award at the Berlinale 2018 will be presented for the first time to the Latin American audiences: the appointment is scheduled for Thursday, 1st March at 6.50 pm.

THE HEIRESSES is a co-production between La Babosa Cine (Paraguay), Pandora Film (Germany), Mutante Cine (Uruguay), Esquina Filmes (Brazil), La Fábrica Nocturna (France) and Norskfilmprodukjson (Norway).
