DIAMANTINO selected for the Cannes Critics’ Week 2018!

April 16, 2018

The 85th TFL Film will premiere at the 57th edition of Cannes Critics’ Week: DIAMANTINO, by the American pair of Gabriel Abrantes & Daniel Schmidt is one of the 7 feature film in Competition!

The satirical comedy (formerly known as TRISTES MONROES), is centered on the character of Diamantino, a world league soccer star who loses his special touch and ends his career in disgrace. Searching for a new purpose, the international icon sets on a delirious odyssey where he confronts neo-fascism, the refugee crisis, genetic modification, and the hunt for the source of genius. The directors said to have taken inspiration from Portugal’s football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The project is the result of a co-production between Les Films du Bélier (France), Maria & Mayer (Portugal) and Syndrome Films (Brazil). It has been developed within the FrameWork 2013 programme and was one of the 9 films to be introduced during the work-in-progress showcase TFL Coming Soon 2017. It also participated in Les Arcs Work in Progress, thanks to a partnership between the French festival and TorinoFilmLab.

Furthermore La Semaine also selected no less than 4 TFL Alumni with their short films: ScriptLab 2017 participant Jacqueline Lentzou will present her new project HECTOR MALOT: THE LAST DAY OF THE YEAR (Greece) in the Short Films Competition, sharing the honor with Script&Pitch 2014 participant Mikko Myllylahti presenting THE TIGER (Finland).

Last but not least, Yorgos ZoisTHIRD KIND (Greece/Croatia) and Bertrand Mandico’s APOCALYPSE AFTER (France) will both have their world premiere in the Short Films Special Screening section of the Critics’ Week.

We are looking forward to this new, exciting edition!
