Karlovy Vary IFF welcomes 5 TFL Films from Central Europe & Latin America!

June 18, 2018

The Czech festival is kicking off next week (29 June-7 July 2018) in the city Karlovy Vary, with a line-up comprising no less than 5 TFL Films.

HISTORY OF LOVE by Sonja Prosenc (Slovenia/Italy/Norway) will world premiere in Competition, on Saturday 30th June. This second feature follows the seventeen-year-old Iva, in the process of coming to terms with the death of her mother. Influenced by this deep personal loss and by the discovery that she didn’t know everything about her mom, the girl will slowly immerse herself into a strange, almost dreamlike world far from reality. The film is produced by Monoo (Slovenia), in co-production with Nefertiti Film (Italy) and Incitus Films (Norway).

After its success at Cannes Critics’ Week (Nespresso Grand Prize), DIAMANTINO by Gabriel Abrantes & Daniel Schmidt will be presented to the audience in the section Another View. This delirious odyssey of a Portuguese soccer player is a co-production between Les Films du Bélier (France), Maria & Mayer (Portugal) and Syndrome Films (Brazil).

Another festival favourite, this year’s Berlinale winner TOUCH ME NOT by Adina Pintilie is one of the three TFL Films presented in Horizons. Co-produced by Manekino Film (Romania), Rohfilm Productions (Germany), Les Films de L’Etranger (France), PINK (Czech Republic) and Agitprop (Bulgaria), TOUCH ME NOT is a film-research about intimacy, an essential aspect of our humanity and yet a topic we find so difficult to talk about and surrounded by so many taboos, shame, guilt and blockages.

Two films from Latin America close the line-up: HUNTING SEASON by Argentinean Natalia Garagiola, winner of the SIAE Audience Award at Venice Critics' Week 2017, and BIRDS OF PASSAGE by the Colombian duo Ciro Guerra & Cristina Gallego. HUNTING SEASON is produced by Rei Cine in co-production with Gamechanger Films (USA), Augenschein Filmproduktion (Germany) and Les Films de l’Étranger (France), while BIRDS OF PASSAGE – which opened the latest Cannes Directors’ Fortnight – is a co-production between Ciudad Lunar and Blonde Indian Films (Colombia), Pimienta Films (Mexico), Snowglobe (Denmark) and Films Boutique (Germany).
