Heading to Rotterdam: TFL Films at the IFFR 2021

January 22, 2021

One of the first film festivals of the year, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), is about to begin.

Taking place from February 1st until February 7th and from June 2nd until June 6th 2021, the festival -  traditionally dedicated to highlight recent work by talented new filmmakers - will feature, once again, a good number of TFL films.

During its 50th edition, held both offline and online, two TFL films - included in the Limelight section - will have their World Premiere.

The first one will be MITRA by Kaweh Modiri, developed within the ScriptLab programme 2017.

37 years after her daughter Mitra was killed, Haleh leads a successful life as a renowned academic in the Netherlands. Her peaceful existence is shaken by the arrival of a woman she believes may be the traitor responsible for Mitra's death. This is the plot of the film that will be screened on Wednesday, February 3rd at 18.45 CET.

The other TFL film - which participated in Script&Pitch 2012 - is DEAD & BEAUTIFUL by David Verbeek.

The film begins after a wild night, when a group of young wealthy friends wake up from their drunken stupor with a freakish discovery: each of them has grown a pair of fangs – vampire teeth. Bewildered at first, the group realizes they feel stronger and more attractive than ever before. The premiere will take place on Friday, February 5th at 19.00 CET.

Within the same section, we also spotted LA NUIT DES ROIS by Philippe Lacôte, winner of the TFL Audience Design Fund 2019 and SWEAT by Magnus von Horn, developed within ScriptLab 2017. Screenings: February 3rd - 16.00 and February 4rd - 16.00 CET.

Also, the Big Screen Competition will feature AURORA by the TFL alumna Paz Fábrega, the Ammodo Tiger Short Competition will include LEMONGRASS GIRL by the TFL Next participant Pom Bunsermvicha and 80 000 ANS by the alumna Christelle Lheureux.
Screenings: February 2nd - 19.30, February 2nd - 17.00 and February 4th - 17.00 CET.

All the films will be available on the film festival platform for the 72 hours following the first screening. Check the full programme here.

Still in the Rotterdam area, NOVAK by Harry Lagoussis (ScriptLab project 2019) will join the next CineMart co-production market, running at the beginning of February.

Lastly, we are happy to share that CHOCOBAR by Lucrecia Martel (TFL Co-Production Fund 2020) and FEATHERS OF A FATHER by Omar El Zohairy (FeatureLab 2017) were awarded the annual Dutch Post-production Award worth €50,000, to be spent on post-production in the Netherlands.
