One year after the launch of TorinoFilmLab in Cannes, here is our first newsletter dedicated to all the professionals that have worked or will work with us in the future.
After assigning 5 Production Awards in November 2008, TorinoFilmLab proudly presents the selection for its Training, Development and Funding Programmes 2009.

Next Event

Second Training workshop - 20-26 of June 2009, Brignogan (France): 2009 Training participants continue their group sessions with their tutors (Antoine Le Bos, Franz Rodenkirchen, Gino Ventriglia, Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, Anita Voorham) to develop the script and start to prepare the pitch for November under the guidance of Ido Abram (Binger Filmlab Director).

Awards

Antonio Piazza & Fabio Grassadonia have been awarded with the Premio Solinas (the main scriptwriting contest in Italy) 2008 for their project Salvo (Special Mention, 2.500 Euro).

Producer and writer-director Aditya Assarat, who won a Production Award with his project High Society at TFL 2008, has received five awards with his first feature film Wonderful town , including best film and best director, at Thailand's leading film honours, the Subhanahongsa Awards, on Sunday Night (Feb 22).
The indie drama also won best screenplay - which also went to Assarat - best cinematography and best art direction.

Projects in Development

Salvo, by Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia, was granted 35.000 Euro for further development from the Italian Ministry of Culture. Piazza and Grassadonia currently participate with this project in TFL Development 2009.

High Society by Aditya Assarat, TFL Development 2008 awarded participant, received 50,000 swiss francs from Visions Sud Est. Assarat is currently planning to shoot in October 2009.

Resurrections, by Petr Vaclav was awarded a 3.000 Euro grant from Le Groupe Ouest, which also offered Petr Vaclav a 2-month development residency in Brittany. Vaclav developed the script at TFL Training 2008.

L’Homme Qui Cache la Foret by Bertrand Mandico and Red Cross by Hugo Vieira da Silva have been selected to participate in Cinéfondation, Atélier du Festival 2009. Both projects received a Production Award after their participation in TFL Development 2008.

Scriptwriter/director Nicola Mills and her producer Gavin Humphries attended the CineMart market 2009 to present Greengrass . Roger Michell has been very supportive of the project and his company Free Range Films are now attached as co-producers. Nicola was recently selected by Screen South to make her script Gum through the Digital Nations short film scheme. She started to develop Greengrass script at TFL Training 2008 and currently continues to work on this project, together with Gavin Humphries, at TFL Development 2009.

Viktoria Lupik and Maria Saakyan, producer and scriptwriter selected to participate in Development 2009 with their project I’m Going to Change my name , will be in Cannes at the co-production meeting organized by the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation, which will be held in the Russian Pavillion on the 18th of May.

Dead Sea, by scriptwriter/director Ihab Jadallah, has been preselected for Binger Filmlab. Ihab Jadallah is developing the script at TFL Training 2009.

Projects in Post-Production

TorinoFilmLab’s Funding (120.000 Euro) provided the kick-start needed for the beginning of the production of Paz Fábrega’s debut feature film, Agua Fria De Mar . Right after the TFL Development 2008, Agua Fria De Mar  received the support of Ibermedia's incentive coproduction fund & Fondation Groupama-Gan Grant in addition to support from Arte/Cofinova 4, Hubert Bals Plus & Cinergia.
The shooting took place in Bahia Ballena on the South-Pacific coast of Costa Rica in February and March. The post-production has started early April in Europe and by mid-June, a screening for sales & distribution will be organized in Paris and in Amsterdam in order to define the release strategy. The standard print is expected by the end of summer / beginning of autumn.
The film is a coproduction between France (Les Films du Requin, Jean des Forêts), Spain (Tic Tac Producciones, Fernanda Del Nido), Costa Rica (Temporal Films, Paz Fábrega), Holland (Isabella films, Els Vandevorst) & Mexico (Pimienta Films, Nicolás Celis).

Vivo film (Italy), together with its co producers Essential Film Produktion (Germany), Ventura Film (Switzerland) and Invisibile Film (Italy) are ready to start the postproduction of The Four Times by Michelangelo Frammartino. Writer-director Frammartino and his producer Marta Donzelli (Vivo Film) won a Production Award (150.000 Euro) at TorinoFilmLab in November 2008. They shot the film in Calabria in March and April 2009. The film is expected be completed by the end of the year.
