Biography

Jožko Rutar is film producer, the founder and CEO of SPOK Film, production company dedicated to discovering new Slovenian film talents as well as to the development, production, promotion and distribution of high end art-house films. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana, Jožko worked as a producer of cultural events, dance performances and films with the EN-KNAP contemporary dance group for five years. From 2004 to 2011, he managed Staragara production company and produced three features, and several shorts and documentaries that were presented in Cannes, Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam, etc. From 2011 to 2016, he was the Managing Director of the national film funding body Slovenian Film Centre. He is EAVE graduate and its Slovenian national representative. He works as a lecturer for the production, economics of audiovisual sector and film financing at Academy for Arts at University of Nova Gorica and CEE Animation Workshop. He is also consultant in film policy making and active in protection of author rights. He is head of expert committee on Slovenian audiovisual collecting society AIPA and former president of Slovenian Film Producers Association. European Film Academy member.          Staragara Production was established in 2003 by award winning film directors Jan Cvitkovič  and Janez Burger. The aim of the company is to produce films by two directors as well as to support a creativen of artisctic enviroment around them. The company is also active on the field of contemporary dance and theatre. The first feature film produced by Staragara was ODGROBADOGROBA (GRAVEHOPPING, 2005),  by Jan Cvitkovič. The film  was internationally premiered at IFF San Sebastian 2005 and won Alatadis award in the categoiry Best First or Second film. At the moment STARAGARA has a feature films CIRCUS FANTASTICUS
