A Private View is an independent Belgium-based film company co-owned by writer/producer Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem and producer Dries Phlypo. The company, founded in 1994, is best known for its Cannes Critics Week-winner MOSCOW, BELGIUM (2008) directed by Christophe van Rompaey and its Montreal Film Festival-winner OXYGEN (2010) directed by Hans van Nuffel. Both films, spoken in Flemish, were huge local hits in Belgium.
A Private View first drew attention with two children’s films: fantasy feature THE BALL (1999), which opened the Berlin Kinderfilmfest in 1999, and SCIENCE FICTION (2002), both directed by Dany Deprez. The company also produced several Belgian box office hits, including dramatic comedies such as LONG WEEKEND (2005) by Hans Herbots, A PERFECT MATCH (2007) by Miel van Hoogenbemt, THE OVER THE HILL BAND (2009) by Geoffrey Enthoven, BRASSERIE ROMANTIEK (2012) by Joël Vanhoebrouck and MARRY ME (2015) by Kadir Balci. Their short film NA WEWE (2010) by Ivan Goldschmidt was nominated for an Academy Award. BAD HUNTER (2014) by Sahim Omar Kalifa is the last short film of A Private View and was nominated for an Oscar in 2016.
Other coproductions of A Private View are the feature films LENA (2011) by Christophe Van Rompaey, VALENTINO (2012) by Remy van Heugten, SPUTNIK (2013) by Marcus Dietrich, ZURICH (2015) by Sacha Polak, ANDRE HAZES: THE BIOPIC (2015) by Diederick Koopal, IN THE HEART (2015) by Nicole Van Kilsdonk, WELCOME HOME (2015) by Phillippe De Pierpont and COUPLE IN A HOLE (2015) by Tom Geens. The documentary WAITING FOR AUGUST (2014) by Ana Teodora Mihai scored at several major festivals such as Karlovy Vary and Hot Docs in Canada.
Currently A Private View just produced their first television series (10 episodes) AMIGO’S written by Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem and Pierre De Clercq and directed by Kadir Balci and Hendrik Moonen. The feature film VINCENT AND THE END OF THE WORLD by Christophe Van Rompaey, a co-production with France, will have its International première in the Piazza Grande section in Locarno and post-production on Sahim Omar Kalifa’s first feature project ZAGROS has started.
