CARLO FRANCISCO MANATAD is a Filipino film director and editor based in Manila. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines Film Institute.
His short films have been screened at numerous local and international film festivals. Junilyn Has, his first short film, premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival While, Jodilerks Dela Cruz Employee of the Month, was selected in competition at the 56th Semaine de la Critique of the Cannes International Film Festival. Baga’t Diri Tuhay Tat Pamahungpahung (The Imminent Immanent) premiered in competition at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.
As one of the most prolific editors in the Philippines today, he has collaborated with numerous filmmakers on independent and studio films, including Khavn ( Ruined Heart, Alipato: Brief Life of an Ember, bamboo Dogs), the short A Gentle Night (Short Palm D'or, Cannes 2017) and She Runs (winner of Leitz Cine Discovery Prize for short film Cannes Critics Week 2019).
Recent editing works include: Sorayos Prapapan's Arnold is A Model Student ( Locarno Film Festival, Cineasti del Presente), Makbul Mubarak's Autobiography ( Venice International Film Festival, Orizzonti Competition), Tiger Stripes by Amanda Nell Eu and Some Rain Must Fall by Qiu Yang.
His first feature film, Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine), developed and supported by the Cannes Cinefondation L’Atelier, La Fabrique des Cinema du Monde, Semaine de la Critique NEXT STEP, CNC Aide aux cinemas du monde, Berlinale World Cinema Fund, Torino Film Lab, Talents Tokyo, Visions sud est, Asian Cinema Fund and the Doha Film Institute.
It premiered at the Locarno Film Festival under the Cineasti del presente Competition and had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2021. He is currently developing his second feature.
