biography

Sara Kern is a Slovenian-Australian filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia. She holds a BA Degree in Film Directing from University of Ljubljana. As a student, Kern was a recipient of the Zois Scholarship and won the Slovenian annual Grossmann (Screenwriting) Award four times in succession (2010-2013). Her award-winning short Good Luck, Orlo premiered in the Orizzonti section of Venice Film festival 2016 and was screened at Toronto International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and Palm Springs International Short Film Festival. A TIFF Talent Lab alumna, Sara worked for several years as a scriptwriter for Radio Television Slovenia’s Children’s and Youth Programme. Kern is currently working on her debut feature Vesna, which received development support from Screen Australia and Film Victoria, and was selected for Cannes Cinéfondation Residence 2018 and Torino Script Lab.
