Costanza Julia Bani

FeatureLab projects Participant 2019

Costanza J Bani was born in Italy, where she studied and got a MA in German Literature and Film Studies. A DAAD scholarship brought her to Berlin and she stayed. She went back to attend the film school in Rome (SNC) and for her PhD thesis on drama theory, which she terminated in London.

She subsequently did research work and taught at the University of Pisa and various film schools. But her ambition always drove her back to Berlin, both when she left Rome because accepted at the dffb, the German film academy Berlin, and when she started to work in the industry.

She successfully completed the screenplay class with a script co-written with the Italian screenplay legend Suso Cecchi D’Amico and a producer’s class at isff, Institute for film and TV.
As a sideline to her academic work she worked as a journalist, scriptwriter and script consultant. However, at some point she realized her true calling is in the overall process of filmmaking and producing with a special focus on content.

So she worked for a wide array of international projects with the participation of German TV. I.a. DER KAMPF UM DIE FREIHEIT, 2013 by T. Ammann (MDR/arte); CONSTRUCTING SOCHI, 2013 by S. Wurster (WDR/arte); MAX BECKMANN, 2012 by M. Trabitzsch (NDR/arte and theatrical release through Piffl Medien); the series COUNTRY VILLAS IN TUSCANY, 2012 by N. Mair and M. Trabitzsch (ZDF/arte); RUSHES, 2012 by C. von Wedemeyer (3sat).

Her multicultural background plus her passion for film, literature, acquisition, networking, financing, budgeting and media rights, make a skilled producer out of her, with a natural capacity for international co-productions.

2013 she joined Molly Aida Film, a Berlin based production company focusing on co-productions of creative documentaries and service-production to be realized in Germany or with German participation, both acting as a major or minor co-producer.
I.a. THE FORGOTTEN ARMY by S. Astrup (BR/DR/UR and theatrical through Salzgeber); BITTER APRICOT by E.L. Volkmann; MUSTARD SEED by Lina Roessler; LITTLE BLACK DRESS by Adolfo Conti; CONCRETE EMPIRE by Kaleb Wentzel-Fisher and MIRNY MINING TOWN by S. Pesapane (Biennale College).

Costanza J Bani is a proud EAVE graduate 2015.

2016 her son was born and 2017 she liquidated Molly Aida and moved to her husband to Stockholm, Sweden.

In spring 2018 she started to work again, talent and project scouting for internationally suitable co-productions on the Scandinavian territories. She has been acting as a consultant for Nordisk Film AB and is currently producer for Fasad, the Stockholm based production company led by Erik Gandini and Jesper Kurlandsky.
From August 2018 she has also been offered a position as an Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer in Film and Media Production at the Stockholms Dramatiska Högskola, Uniarts Sweden.
