biography

Eva Michon is an award-winning filmmaker and artist. Her parents, both mechanical engineers, left Poland two weeks before martial law in 1981. They fled to an Austrian refugee camp, then to South Africa, and she was born in Johannesburg. The family relocated to Canada and she grew up in Toronto where she developed as a photographer before turning her focus to filmmaking. While in film school, she founded Bad Day, an arts and culture periodical lauded as Canada’s best internationally-celebrated arts magazine. But it’s dead now, closed at twenty issues.
Eva moved to Los Angeles in 2012 with husband and dog. She’s caught the film industry’s attention with her music videos, short films, commercial and documentary work. She’s been writing the story of "Mizeria" since 2011, after a near death experience (car chase) involving her father Zygmunt and his now-ex wife.
Nevertheless, she has a great relationship with Zygmunt, who has served as the inspiration for Henryk. She’s also close with her half-brother who lives with Zygmunt, but not with her others who live with their mom. But that’s a story for another time, to tell over a frosty beer.
