Manuel Ruíz Montealegre studied History at the National University of Colombia and completed a Master's Degree in Anthropology and Ethnology at the EHESS of Paris (2005), where he is currently pursuing a PhD in the same discipline.
Since 2011 he is Associate Professor of the Film School of the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Colombia, where he is responsible for the Documentary Workshop, the Theory and History Chair of audiovisual media and direct research projects.
In 2006 he founded the production company audiovisual Medio de Contatención Producciones, in which he has participated in the direction, production and investigation for documentaries both of his own authorship and of other filmmakers.
He has served as a jury for institutional competitions linked to audiovisual and has been an advisor institutional publications and development of transmedia projects.
Medio de Contención Producciones is an Audiovisual production house and creation workshop founded in 2006 by Héctor Ulloque and Manuel Ruiz Montealegre. The films produced by this production house have been part of the official selection of recognized international and national film festivals, and have been broadcasted in different television channels in Colombia, Latin America and Europe. Since 2011, MCP articulates the cinematographic production with the development of transmedia and educational projects.
