biography

Elena STANISHEVA is a film producer based in Skopje. After her graduation at the National University, with a major in French language, she participated in the certificate producers program at the NYFA in New York, she became a talent at the Sarajevo Talents 2013 and the same year received a scholarship to study scriptwriting at FAMU in Prague.

She started her career working with the acclaimed Golden Lion award-winning director Milcho Manchevski and gaining significant knowledge in the field of international co-productions. After establishing her company VEDA FILM, she co-produced her first short film “To Guard a Mountain” and won numerous international awards such as the Amanda Award, the 1st Prize for Life-Action Short at Chicago IFF 2013; it was selected by César French Film Academy and submitted to the Oscars.

In 2016, she was a participant at the EPI European Co-production workshops in Berlin; later in 2017 she participated in the Rotterdam Lab for an upcoming producer, Cannes Producers Workshop, Mediterranean Film Institute in Greece and became an alumni at MAIA Producers Workshops.
In 2018, she starts collaborating with the producer Labina Mitevska and worked as Production Manager on their last feature film "God Exist, Her Name is Petrunya" by Teona S. Mitevska that premiered in Berlinale 2019 in the competition program. She continues to collaborate with producer Labina Mitevska on her future projects.

In the past 5 years, through her company, she collaborates with writer and director Andrej I. Volkashin and developing their debut feature film "The Sweet Bitterness of Ripe Pomegranates" at Torino Script Lab 2019. She was also selected to be one of the developing angels at LIM - Less is More Lab 2019.

VEDA FILM Productions is a Skopje-based production company launched in 2011 by the producer Elena Stanisheva, who started her career working with the acclaimed Golden Lion award-winning director Milcho Manchevski. In 2012 the company produced the first short film titled “To Guard a Mountain” by Izer Aliu, the most successful Macedonian short film that was screened on more than 40 festivals around the world and won numerous international awards among which the prestige AMANDA Award in Norway, the 1st Prize for Life-Action Short at Chicago IFF 2013 and a nomination for the Oscar’s and selection by CEZAR French Film Academy for one of the most successful film in 2012 and many other awards.

In 2014, the young director Andrey Volkashin joins the company team with his colleague editor from Bulgaria, Nevelin Vulchev. After graduating from NATFA in Sofia, Andrey’s graduation project "Kinder Surprise" won the Audience Award at Sofia International Film Festival. In 2017, the company team produced the film "Koliva", premiered at Huescah ISFF 2018 and selected in the official program of more than 15 festivals. Both Elena and Andrey participated at the Sarajevo Talents program, which allowed Andrey to be selected in the program Sarajevo City of Film 2018 and to direct his second short film "Ficus".

As a producer and managing director of the company Elena participated in numerous European workshops focusing on developing her career as a filmmaker. She was a participant at the EPI European Co-production workshops in Berlin; in 2017 she participated in the Rotterdam Lab for upcoming producer, the same year she was selected for Cannes Producers Workshop, Mediterranean Film Institute in Greece and became an alumni at MAIA Producers Workshops.
In 2019, Andrey and Elena produced their newest short film titled "Snake" which is now in distribution. They are now actively working on the development of their first feature film "The Sweet Bitterness of Ripe Pomegranates", developing the film script at Torino ScriptLab 2019. In August 2019, they applied for production support at the North Macedonian Film Agency.
