biography

Giona Nazzaro acts as General Delegate of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week, programmer and curator for Visions du Réel, member of the Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI), journalist and writer. He has also been working on the programming of the Torino Film Festival, the Florence Festival dei Popoli and the Rome Film Festival. He collaborates with the Locarno Film Festival. He curated the art exhibition Il Di/Segno del Cinema – The De/Sign of Cinema in Cagliari, Italy. He wrote books and essays on Hong Kong cinema and postmodern action films, as well as a collection of short stories.

The Venice International Film Critics’ Week (SIC) is an independent and parallel section organized by the National Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI) created 34 years ago. The mission of the Critics' Week is to promote new, fresh, cutting edge and original filmmakers. Over the years the Critics' Week has presented the debuts by directors such as Oliviers Assayas, Bertrand Mandico, Mike Leigh, Rian John Johnson, Nacer Khemir, Antonio Capuano, Carlo Mazzacurati, Sergio Rubini, Roberta Torre, Bryan Singer, Peter Mullan, Helena Wittman, Alaeddine Slim, Kevin Reynolds and many others.

The seven features in competition at the 34th Venice International Film Critics’ Week are eligible for two main awards: the Audience Award and the Grand Prize Venice International Film Critics’ Week, realized thanks to the support of SIAE – Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori. Furthermore, the films in competition are eligible for the following prizes: Verona Film Club Award awarded to the most innovative film in the section and the Mario Serandrei – Hotel Saturnia Award for Best Technical Contribution, sponsored by the Hotel Saturnia in Venice.
