biography

Jorge Thielen Armand is a Venezuelan writer, producer, and director. His films LA SOLEDAD (2016) and FLOR DE LA MAR (2015) have been shown and awarded in numerous international venues, among them are the Venice International Film Festival, the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, the Istanbul Biennial, and The Museum of the Moving Image in New York. La Soledad was released theatrically in the UK by the ICA and MUBI, where it received praise from critics at The Guardian, Little White Lies, etc. His latest feature film LA FORTALEZA (2020) premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam in Tiger Competition.

In 2015 Jorge founded La Faena Films with Rodrigo Michelangeli, a production company dedicated to art-house films with social relevance. They have since worked with co-producers from diverse regions and received support from La Biennale di Venezia, the World Cinema Fund, Tribeca Film Institute, Arte France Cinema, Film Fond Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Proimágenes Colombia, TIFF, Canada Council for the Arts, Breaker, and others

La Faena is a production company dedicated to auteur cinema. We are committed to the search for new aesthetic forms and works that create a reflection for viewers to recognize themselves. We are passionate about the power of film to transform lives; thus we believe in the moving image as a tool for change.

In 2016, La Faena premiered the first film about the current Venezuelan crisis, LA SOLEDAD by Jorge Thielen Armand. The film premiered at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival and garnered 14 awards across a run of more than 50 international festivals. La Soledad was released in UK cinemas and on numerous digital platforms.

Founded in 2015, La Faena has since worked with co-producers from different regions and received support for its projects from institutions such as La Biennale di Venezia, the World Cinema Fund, Tribeca Film Institute, Ibermedia, Toronto International Film Festival, ARTE France Cinema, BAFICI, Canada Council for the Arts, among others.
