biography

Guillermo García López was born in 1985 in Madrid. His feature debut, Frágil Equilibrio (2016), premiered at IDFA and won the Goya for Best Documentary Feature, as well as many other awards and selections in numerous film festivals in Edinburgh, Austin, Thessaloniki, Valladolid, Teheran, Reykjavik or Los Angeles, among others. In 2020, Guillermo received the prestigious Princess of Girona Award for Arts and Literature. He created, wrote, and co-directed the series Atlánticas, made up by 3 x 60' films: Deshielo, Inmersión, and Oscilación, that opened on RTVE in 2019. He is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talents Campus. Teaches film at the Master of Architectonic Communication at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, carrying out projects that intersect cinema and architecture, like his pieces Faceless and Lo-Tech Reality, this last as a collaboration with the Underground Resistance collective in Detroit. He is currently writing his first fiction feature film, Ciudad Sin Sueño, also selected for the Cinéfondation - Residence du Festival de Cannes, for the Berlinale Script Station, and for the Spanish Film Academy Residency, as well as creating a cinema school for young people at one of the largest illegal settlements in Europe, on the outskirts of Madrid, that will also be the setting of his film.
