biography

Barcelona, 1993. She graduates in 2014 as a film director and screenwriter from Bande à part Film School. She’s written and directed short films, advertisements and audiovisuals for theatre. She’s had the opportunity to experiment in different formats and supports (8mm, 16mm, digital and MiniDV).

In 2013, her short film “Matices” is one of the finalists at Notodofilmfest and wins the Travelling 34 Award at Très Court International Film Festival. In 2015, her short film “Formas de jugar” wins the award New Visions at the Sitges International Film Festival 2015, and is also selected to various national film festivals. In the year 2017 she receives her first public funding from ICAA (Spanish National Film Fund) to direct her short film “Jauría”, which is premiered at the Official Selection of Malaga Spanish Film Festival 2018. This last film is the one that opens doors to international and national prestigious film festivals such as ALCINE, Gijón, Almería or BogoSVhorts. Winning several prizes as director, best film and best actors, including the SGAE-New Authors Award at the Sitges International Film Festival 2018.

In 2018 Gemma takes the workshop “Construction of a character” in the prestigious film school EICTV (Cuba), where she develops the synopsis of the feature film THE FURY (previously named ANGELA) The film mixes autobiographical events with fiction. That same year the Gijón-FICX International Film Festival premieres her experimental feature EL ZOO which travels to national festivals as LPA Las Palmas or D’A Barcelona 2019. Her feature THE FURY continues in development and in 2019 it receives the support of Dama Ayuda and is mentored by awarded screenwriter Michel Gaztambide, as well as attending the Mallorca Talents Lab (FILMIN).

Gemma is currently immersed in the creation of her first feature film THE FURY.
