Sophie McVeigh

United Kingdom

Sophie McVeigh graduated from London Film School’s Screenwriting MA in 2017 and went on to sign with Independent Talent after being selected for the inaugural Canneseries Institute writers’ residency in 2018. She works mainly in television, and is currently developing a psychological thriller with Silverprint Pictures, London. Her Paris-set miniseries It Could Have Been Us is optioned by Mainstreet Pictures, while Woke, the comedy series she wrote at Canneseries, is being developed with Auteurs Associés and Mediawan, Paris. She is also working with Three River Fiction to develop a Cyprus-set crime series entitled Farpoint, alongside the German broadcaster ZDF, which has just been selected for the Drama Pitching forum at MIA in Rome. The Taj Motel will be Sophie’s first professional feature film, but her second project with co-writer Nishchaya Gera, with whom she has also written a TV comedy-drama set in the gay porn industry. Originally from Coventry in the UK, Sophie teaches scriptwriting on the Filmmaking MA at the University of East London and is a mentor to students at London Film School. She loves writing character-led indie drama, dark comedy and psychological thrillers, and having lived in Spain and France for a decade before relocating to London, is particularly interested in working on projects with a European connection.
