biography

Doruntina is a playwright and screenwriter. She studied Playwriting at the University of Prishtina and holds an MA in European Humanities. She spent a decade working in the creative industry in her hometown. Her first feature screenplay Vera Dreams of the Sea was made into a film by Kaltrina Krasniqi. It premiered in the Orizzonti section of the 78th Venice International Film Festival. She works in her home country, as well as internationally, in theater, film and communication.

Vera Dreams of the Sea, feature film (2021)

Vera, a middle-aged sign language interpreter, is forced to face the raw reality of the deeply-seated gender issues when, after her husband’s suicide, the tendrils of an underworld scheme begin to surface.

Vera Dreams of the Sea premiered in the 78th Venice International Film Festival, 2021 and was awarded Edipo Rei and Authors Under 40 Award by the parallel program of the festival.

Sarabande, short documentary (2018)

Sarabande started as a personal documentary on the classical music virtuoso Petrit Çeku who back in 2014 was about to record the The Bach Cello Suites in Spain. But then it became a road movie on borders and illegality, to later be wrapped up into a journey of two friends traveling between the invented ideas of Orient and Occident, past and future.
Sarabande premiered in ZagrebDox 2018, was awarded as Best Documentary in Cinalfama Film Festival and was a nominee in short documentary competition at Camerimage Festival 2018. The film had a great festival run 2018-19, for more information check www.sarabande.eu
