biography

Sophie is a producer based in Berlin. She believes in visionary, political, queer and diverse stories and emerging film and talent. While studying Film Production at the Film University Babelsberg, she founded Schuldenberg Films. Sophie participated in the Rotterdam Lab 2021. The feature film Neubau was awarded Best Debut Film at the German Critics Award 2022. Piaffe, by Ann Oren, celebrated its world premiere in the Concorso Internazionale in Locarno 2022.

Schuldenberg Films is an independent film production company based in Berlin and Bad Endorf.
SBF focuses on the production of genre-bending fictional and non-fictional film works with an artistic, critical and political approach, spanning from feature films, documentaries and series to experimental art works.
Despite its young history the company’s track record includes festival participations at Berlinale, Rotterdam, São Paulo, Edinburgh, Sarajevo, art shows at Biennale di Venezia, Museum Arnhem, Eye Film Institute, Van Abbe museum and many other international presentations at festivals, in museums and other institutions.
Schuldenberg Films is jointly managed by Sophie Ahrens, Fabian Altenried and Kristof Gerega.
