biography

María de Castro is a young Galician director based in Barcelona. Her first short film, which she wrote, directed and produced, TASTE (2016) was shown mainly on digital platforms and was released on NOWNESS. It obtained a VIMEO STAFF PICKS, with over 430,000 viewings, was selected for CANIFF and MILANOFFF, and was shown in the Directors’ Fortnight at the HAMMER MUSEUM LOS ANGELES SCREENING.
In 2015 she founded her own commercial and content production company, Mediano Films. Since then, María has directed
commercials for brands such as Audi, Volkswagen, FCB and Vueling.
Nowadays she is represented in Spain by Grayskull, in France by Bollywood fr, in Mexico by Meraki Content and in the United States by Anonymous Content (a prestigious, multi-award winning producer of commercials, films, videos and series).
In 2008 she graduated in Economics and Business Management and between 2009 and 2013 she studied film direction at the Bande à Part school in Barcelona.
During that period she participated in the co-writing of the feature film “El fin del mundo” as a result of the group script writing workshop supervised by Michel Gaztambide for Bande à Part and El Dedo en el Ojo. She also participated in the adaptation of the short film script for the novel “250 Km” by Victor Panicello.
At present she is developing the script of “The Opportunity”, which will be her first feature film.
