Biography

Furat is of Iraqi-German descent. She graduated with a MA degree in International Journalism from London. Working for long periods in Europe, North and South-America and the Middle East she gained ample experience in filmmaking in these regions. She produced her first short film COMPOSICIONES AL AZAR (Random Compositions) with the acclaimed Argentinean documentary film group Boedo Film in 1998. In 2004, she joined Enlil Film & Art as Executive Producer for UNDEREXPOSURE. In 2007, she became a partner in Enlil Film & Art. She is the Executive Producer of QARANTINA. She is writing “Café Abu Nawas”, a script for a feature length film for the Swiss film production company Dschoint Ventschr. Her main area of interest is writing scripts for animation feature-length films and their realization. Thus, she has started a new project for a children feature film named “Asia, Dawood and the Ghoul” that will include live action and animation. This project is in development. In addition to her work in cinema, her artistic work includes among others a number of video installations on Iraq and the Iraqi Buddy Bear sculpture for the organisation United Buddy Bears.
