Bio
Born in Rome in 1970, Mario Gianani graduated in 1994 with a degree in Political Science from Rome's L.U.I.S.S. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as delegate producer for Fiction TV at Taodue with Pietro Valsecchi. In 1998 Mario entered in the fiction division at Mediaset (Mediatrade) as an assistant to the managing director Roberto Pace. Two years later, he became the general manager of Evision (a company producing international fictional programming which was jointly owned by the Kirch Group and Mediaset) and was also responsible for Veleno, a company owned by Mediaset, Medusa, Mondadori and Jumpy.
In 2001 he founded the Rome-based production company Offside Srl. As a producer, Mario has worked on several information, current affairs and historical programmes for different TV broadcasters, a number of documentaries and two feature films directed by Saverio Costanzo.
Costanzo's feature debut "Private" , which was sold to more than 40 territories, had its world premiere at the 2004 Locarno International Film Festival where it received the Golden Leopard and “Best Actor” and then went on to garner awards at festivals in Valladolid, San Francisco, Buenos Aires and Cape Town. In 2005, the film was presented with the David di Donatello, Ciak d'Oro, Globo d'Oro and Nastro d'Argento awards for "Best First Feature Film".
At the 2007 Berlinale, Costanzo's second feature "In Memoria di Me" was selected for the Official Competition section.
OFFSIDE
OFFSIDE is a production company established in 2001 and during these years, apart from many TV programs, the company has produced several documentaries and two feature films, “Private” and “In memory of me”, both directed by Saverio Costanzo.
Among the many awards that “Private” has won it is worth mentioning the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival and the David di Donatello in Italy. “Private” was also selected as the Italian candidate to the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards but unfortunately it got rejected for being “not enough Italian”.
“In memoria of me” was released in Italy in March 2007, distributed by Medusa Film. The film was in the official selection, competition, at the Berlinale 2007.
During 2007 OFFSIDE has produced another project by Saverio Costanzo, the documentary “Auschwitz 2006” , which had its world premiere at the Film Fest in Rome 2007 and during the same year the company has also produced the documentary “In Fabbrica” , in association with RAI Cinema and RAI Teche. “In Fabbrica” was directed by Francesca Comencini and it was presented at the Turin Film Festival where it won the Cipputi Prize.
At present OFFSIDE is in post-production of Marco Bellocchio’s new feature film with the planned release is in May 2009.
OFFSIDE is managed by the founder Mario Gianani, CEO and producer, in partnership with the director Saverio Costanzo.
