Pedro Fernandes Duarte is the founder of the Portuguese film production company PRIMEIRA IDADE. Producer of the feature-length “The Metamorphosis of Birds”, written and directed by Catarina Vasconcelos, which was distinguished with a total of 40 international film prizes, among them the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film at the Berlinale's Encounters program, the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera award for Best Film at Donostia / San Sebastian IFF, the Grand Prix of the New Horizons IFF, the Best Film Award of the Vilnius IFF, the Special Jury Prize of the Taipei Film Festival, the Golden Apricot at Yerevan IFF, the Best International Documentary at Victoria Film Festival, or Best Film at Dokufest. Sold to territories such as China, the USA, Canada, the U.K., Spain, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, Ireland, among others. Producer of a total of 20 short-films, amongst them "By Flávio", directed by Pedro Cabeleira, premiered at the Berlinale Shorts in 2022; “Bad Bunny”, directed by Carlos Conceição, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's Critics’ Week; "Nocturne for a Forest" directed by Catarina Vasconcelos, premiered at Locarno IFF's Corti di Autore competition, as well as several short-films premiered in IFF Rotterdam: "Ruby" by Mariana Gaivão; "The Damned Yard" by André Gil Mata", "The Left-behind" by Aurélie Oliveira Pernet and "Water Hazard" by Alexander David. Four of these were broadcasted at ARTE TV: "Ruby", "Water Hazard", "By Flávio" and "Bad Bunny". In documentary, two international feature-length co-productions "Gods of Stone" by Iván Castiñeiras Gallego and "Aurora" by João Vieira Torres were premiered in 2025, the first in IFFRotterdam and the second at the international competition of Visions du Réel in Nyon. In 2020, the feature “Ghosts: Long Way Home” directed by Tiago Siopa was distinguished with the First Light Award for Best First Film at Jihlava's First Lights program and with the Doc Alliance Award for Best Film. In April 2021 the company premiered the medium-lenght documentary “Sortes” at the international competition of Visions du Réel, a film that would be distinguished with the Prize for Best German Mid-length Film of the year at the Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis.
