Biography

Drago Sholev was born on 21st July 1977 in Russe, Bulgaria. He graduated from the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, NAFTA (both animation & film directing). After the success of his shorts Family, Habanera, Before Life, after Death and The Go-Between, in 2011 Drago Sholev directed his first feature Shelter, which premiered at San Sebastian IFF and up to now has received 21 awards for its appearance at over 70 festivals around the world, among which Tromso IFF, Rotterdam IFF, Goteborg IFF, Sofia IFF, Guadalajara IFF, Buenos Aires IFF, Festroia IFF, Munich IFF, La Rochelle IFF, Haifa IFF, Odessa IFF, etc. Drago’s last project Fishbone is about to premier in November 2022. He worked as assistant director in several films and also has directed over 150 commercials and music videos. After the success of his shorts Family, Habanera, Before Life, after Death and The Go-Between, in 2009 Drago Sholev filmed the documentary Now and Forever about a legendary concert of Bulgarian groups “Control”, “Revue” and ”Hipodil”. The film was presented with a large audience success at the 14th Sofia IFF. In 2011 Drago Sholev directed his first feature Shelter. The scenario was co-written with Razvan Radulescu,  Melissa de Raaf and Drago Sholev. Shelter premiered at San Sebastian IFF and up to now has received 21 awards for its appearance at over 70 festivals around the world, among which Tromso IFF, Rotterdam IFF, Goteborg IFF, Sofia IFF, Guadalajara IFF, Buenos Aires IFF, Festroia IFF, Munich IFF, La Rochelle IFF, Haifa IFF, Odessa IFF, etc.
