Julian McKinnon was born in a small town in the Italian Alps in 1986. He graduated in Middle Eastern Studies from “L’Orientale” University in Naples. During his studies, he lived in Cairo where he conducted research about Egyptian contemporary art worlds.
He recently taught Arabic language and Arab culture in a cultural centre in Aosta (Italy). His course focused, among other things, on history of Egyptian cinema. He also works for two major Italian film festivals dedicated to Arab cinema: Film Middle East Now (Florence) and Yalla Shebab (Lecce).
He loves Arab popular culture, electronic shaabi music, felucca belly dancing and Egyptian divas.
