Steffi Niederzoll is a German filmmaker, artist, and author whose work interlaces intimate stories with sociopolitical urgency. She studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and at EICTV in Cuba. Her short films, including the award-winning Ein Sommer lang and Lea (Berlinale), screened internationally. She has taken part in renowned directing masterclasses, is a recipient of scholarships from DAAD and the Tarabya Cultural Academy, and is an alumna of Berlinale Talents. Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches at film schools and works as a consultant for feature and documentary projects. Her debut feature documentary Seven Winters in Tehran (2023) premiered at the Berlinale and has since screened at nearly 100 festivals worldwide, receiving more than 40 awards, among them the Berlinale Peace Film Prize and two German Film Awards. In addition to her filmmaking, Niederzoll co-authored the book Wie man ein Schmetterling wird (How to Become a Butterfly) with Shole Pakravan, published by Berlin Verlag, furthering her commitment to stories of resilience and human rights.
