Born in New Delhi and a graduate of the National Polish Film School in Łódź, Tushar Prakash is a filmmaker, editor, and scriptwriter. He co-directed 'Sauna Day' with Anna Hints, which premiered at Critics' Week at Cannes and later at the Toronto International Film Festival. By March 2025, the film had been selected for 50 festivals, including Clermont Ferrand, Tallinn Black Nights and Reykjavík, and won the Best International Short Film award at BRNO16.
Tushar is one of the editors for Anna Hints’s documentary 'Smoke Sauna Sisterhood', which won the Directing Award at Sundance 2023 and was Estonia’s entry for the 96th Academy Awards. The documentary received the European Film Academy Award for Best Documentary and has garnered 35 awards and special mentions. It has been sold in over 30 territories and received nominations for the LUX European Audience Film Award, Critics' Choice for Best First Feature Documentary, Cinema Eye Honors, and PGA, as well as a nomination for Best Editing at the prestigious International Documentary Association Awards.
Tushar co-wrote and associate produced 'The Weight of Light', also directed by Anna Hints. The film premiered at the 2024 Tampere International Film Festival and won the Youth Jury Award at the San Sebastián Human Rights Film Festival, along with Best Short Film at the PÖFF Shorts National Competition at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
His graduation film 'I Am OK' screened at festivals including the New Horizons Film Festival in Wrocław, winning the Award for Artistic Courage and Bravery and receiving a Special Mention at the Koszalin Film Festival. He also co-directed Karma Killings, the first Indian documentary acquired by Netflix.
In 2015, he attended La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde at Cannes, where he was mentored by Claire Denis. Tushar is the first Indian alumnus of EAVE and Berlin Talents' Editing Studio.
