Samir was born in Bagdad in 1955 and grew up in Switzerland. His first works as freelance author and director were released in 1982.
Today Samir is well known for his unique work on film and video, such as the docu-essay «Babylon 2» (1993), the acclaimed documentary «Forget Baghdad» (2002) and the triumphant feature film «Snow White» (2005).
In 1994 he co-founded Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion based in Zurich. Besides focussing on his own projects as an independent producer and director, he worked for various international broadcasters, directing several features and series for european channels such as SAT1, RTL and Pro7, ZDF and ARTE.
