Biennale College - Cinema: international call for second edition now open!

Only 8 months after the launch of the first edition, the Biennale di Venezia announces, in partnership with Gucci, the second edition of Biennale College – Cinema, a higher-education training workshop for the development and production of micro-budget feature-length films, open to emerging film directors and producers from around the world. The challenge is to succeed in creating – at the end of a year-long series of activities, three feature-length low-cost (€ 150,000) audio-visual works.

The challenge is to succeed in creating – at the end of a year-long series of activities, three feature-length low-cost (€ 150,000) audio-visual works.
The new international call for participation for the second edition is open from May 8th through July 10th 2013. The full text of the call is available at www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/collegecinema/. Participation is open to teams of directors making their first or second film, and producers who have produced at least three short films distributed and/or screened at festivals.
Initially, twelve projects for micro-budget feature-length films will be selectedThree of these projects will then be chosen to participate in the subsequent phases, to be developed and produced thanks to a contribution of € 150,000 and presented at the 2014 Venice Film Festival. They will also be screened online on the Sala Web, a virtual screening room that will coexist with the traditional screening rooms on the Lido.
The first edition of the Biennale College - Cinema was successfully launched in August 2012, with 433 projects submitted from 77 countries around the world. Of these, 15 projects were selected, and their teams participated in a first workshop in Venice. Subsequently, 3 projects were chosen to produce 3 micro-budget films, thanks to a contribution of € 150,000 each. They are currently in production and will be presented at the coming 70th Venice International Film Festival (28 August – 7 September 2013). The 3 projects are: 
- MEMPHIS (USA) - Tim Sutton (director) and John Baker (producer)
- THE YEAR OF JUNE (Thailand) - Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit (director) and Aditya Assarat (producer)
- YURI ESPOSITO (Italy) - Alessio Fava (director) and Max Chicco (producer)
