The 2021 edition of the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States, will take place in a hybrid shape from the 28th of January until the 3rd of February 2021, combining online and offline events. We feel excited and proud of the TFL films that will have the chance to be screened at Sundance.

Two TFL films will be part of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition; they’ll both have their World Premiere at the Utah based film festival.

HUMAN FACTORS by Ronny Trocker, ScriptLab project of 2017, was showcased during the TFL Meeting Event 2020 within Coming Soon section, dedicated to films ready for international festivals.

The plot focuses on Jan, Nina and their two kids: a cosmopolitan, middle-class family.
Nina and Jan have a successful career as account executives at their advertising company, but when Jan accepts to work on the campaign of a political party, Nina’s exclusion from the decision-making leads to doubting and mistrust. When they decide to spend a family weekend at their house in a coastal holiday resort, a mysterious home invasion sets everything off balance. While they try to put the incident into perspective, agitation triggers off a shake in the family core.

Told through narrative loops and shifting lenses, HUMAN FACTORS unveils the fragility of truth in the hyper-mediatized world and the power of individual perspective.

The premiere will take place on January 29th at 6 pm (GMT + 01.00).

The second feature film included in the category (and debut feature film of the director) is PRIME TIME by Jakub Piatek, developed in the frame of the intensive workshop scheme TFL Extended 2019. The story takes place on New Year’s Eve 1999, when a twenty-year-old Sebastian, armed with a gun, hijacks a TV studio and takes two hostages—a famous TV presenter and a security guard. His plan? No one seems to know, including Sebastian himself.

The premiere will take place on January 30th at 9.00 pm (GMT + 01.00).

Among the Spotlight titles, we encounter a familiar name: LA NUIT DES ROIS by Philippe Lacôte - winner of the TFL Audience Design Fund 2019 (€ 40.000) - which had its World Premiere during the last Venice International Film Festival.

The "gripping and seductive film that sharply veers off the beaten track” as defined by Fabien Lemercier on Cineuropa, will be screened on February 2nd at 12.00 am (GMT + 01.00).

Lastly, KNOCKING, film directed by the ScriptLab 2019 alumna, Frida Kempff will have its World Premiere on January 30th at 6:00 am (GMT + 01.00).

Dig through the Sundance Film Festival programme 2021, some great films are waiting to be discovered.
