Within the framework of this year’s TFL Meeting Event, TorinoFilmLab is pleased to announce a session called Film Initiatives, dedicated to a public presentation of trainings, workshops and residencies for feature film development organized by the lab and its partners.
The panel, open to the public and moderated by TFL Artistic Director Matthieu Darras, will be held at Scuola Holden – General Store on November 25th at 11:00 am, showcasing several opportunities for international filmmakers.
TorinoFilmLab Reloaded. In the initial part of the talk the spotlights will be on the brand new 3-lab formula that TFL is introducing in 2017: ScriptLab, FeatureLab and SeriesLab – a brand new programme dedicated to TV series to kick off next year – will be described in detail by Matthieu Darras and SeriesLab Head of Studies Nicola Lusuardi.
Biennale College – Cinema & Hybrid. TFL Executive Director & Biennale College – Cinema Head of Studies Savina Neirotti will talk about the 5th edition of the Biennale College – Cinema scheme of the Venice Film Festival aimed at micro-budget audiovisual works and introduce the new Biennale College – Hybrid, a programme developed to explore the aesthetics and narrative opportunities offered by Virtual Reality.
Le Groupe Ouest. 10 years after its creation in Brittany, France, Le Groupe Ouest has become the first place in Europe for number of filmmakers coached in residency (130 in 2016). LGO also created the Cross Channel Film Lab, linking new technology research for images/sound and script development. TFL long-time tutor and Le Groupe Ouest founder and Artistic Director Antoine Le Bos will present their newest programme LIM - Less is More, a pan-European initiative supporting limited budget feature film development.
Film Commission Torino Piemonte. FCTP is one of the promoters of TorinoFilmLab, and Director Paolo Manera will briefly illustrate the work of the institution, focused on attracting to the area of Piedmont and Turin Italian and foreign film and TV productions while supporting the local film and television industry, thus creating new working opportunities for several players in the industry.
REALNESS. Producer and TFL Alumnus Elias Ribeiro, who launched the scheme, will present this pioneering Screenwriters Residency initiative that affords five emerging African writer/directors the opportunity to cultivate their screenplays and package their projects in a supportive and nurturing space for 6 weeks. The aim of REALNESS is to foster a New Wave of Authentic African Cinema. It is a year round support system to the alumni, helping them to bring their scripts from the page to the screen.
The TFL Meeting Event 2016 will also welcome representatives of many other training institutions and initiatives: among others we would like to mention some returning ones, such as the Cannes Cinéfondation, EP2C, FOCAL resource, MAIA Workshops, and we are thrilled to be hosting in Torino for the first time other organizations like the Doha Film Institute, CISA, FIDLab, San Francisco Film Society and SEAFIC.
