Scriptwriter and Filmmaker. Spanish Cinema Academy Member. ACCIÓN Spanish Filmmakers Association Member. International festivals jury and curator. University professor, artist and illustrator. Cortés writes and directs two feature films (CARRASCA and REFUGES). He writes two series and twelve shortfilms. Cannes International Screenwriters Residency CANNESERIES UNLIMITED 2021 laureate (eight worldwide authors selected among 500 candidates; organized by Cannes City Council, Vivendi, Canal+, StudioCanal, German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) Series Programme and Université Côte d’Azur). Cortés wins IBERMEDIA scholarship at LABGUION 2020 Colombia International Cinema Script Laboratory among 300 movies from 20 countries. “Santa Isabel de Aragón, Reina de Portugal” (Spain) Screenplay Award Winner. Selected at VLC PITCH FORUM (Valencia, Spain): mentoring and master classes by best spanish lenguage showrunners and screenwriters, including Guillermo Arriaga Cannes Film Festival winner, Oscars and BAFTA Nominee; Talent campus by the producer Marian Sánchez Carniglia and pitch to networks and platforms. Selected at Alicante Film Festival Fiction Laboratory (Spain). Aragón Government Feature Films Development 2020 winner (Spain). Research and Investigation Director at HÉROES: SILENCIO & ROCK ‘N’ ROLL (NETFLIX, 2021), documentary feature film about Héroes del Silencio rock band. Directed by Alexis Morante and produced by Miguel Ángel Lamata. Best Documentary Nominee at Spanish Cinema Academy-Goya Awards 2022. Alejandro Cortés is executive producer and director of LA NUEVA NORMALIDAD, written by Álex Rodrigo (Money Heist Netflix series director), episode of RESET, an ensemble movie about Covid-19 consequences by seven directors (produced by Aragón TV; in FILMIN platform). His thriller screenplay MIRADA DE VIDRIO wins Aragon Government Scholarship for the Development of Feature Films (Spain). Selected at LABGUION 2022 Colombia. Argentine finalist at Latin American Contest of Fiction Arguments LATC (Latin American Training Center) and CIBA-CILET (International Center of Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision, CILECT). Finalist at Cine Qua Non Lab 2020 (Mexico-New York, with the support of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). FEATURE FILMS: Alejandro Cortés writes, directs and produces the documentary film CARRASCA (2018.FILMIN platform) Spanish Institute of Cinema (ICAA, Government of Spain) Special Mention for the Promotion of Women Equality. Best National Film Audience Award at the 27th Madrid Film Festival (Spain), Best National Film at the XIV International Film Festival Luis Buñuel-Calanda (Spain). Selected at 63 SEMINCI, Valladolid International Film Festival (Spain); Best International Documentary Finalist at 14 Beloit International Film Festival (USA). Selected in the Official Documentary Section at 35th Bogotá Film Festival (Colombia); 46th Huesca International Film Festival (Spain), 10th CIBRA-Toledo Film Festival (Spain) and 12 ATLANTIDOC Uruguay International Film Festival Cortés writes, directs and produces the fiction feature film REFUGIOS (REFUGES, 2015. Spain/Argentina) with awards and selections at festivals in Spain, India, USA, Sweden, and Argentina. REFUGES work in progress was screened in Cinema from Spain at 64th Berlinale (Berlin) and in Ventana Sur 2014 (Buenos Aires). Shot in 16 mm. and 4K with Spanish and Argentine actors such as Álex Angulo, Rafael Spregelburd, Luisa Gavasa or Cesáreo Estébanez and with a team of 200 members from 12 countries. Alejandro is graduated from the Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires, Argentina with a degree in filmmaking. Government of Spain National Award for Academic Excellence Special Mention.
