Biography

Anna Marziano (Italy, 1982). After her studies in Political Sciences at Università degli Studi di Padova, she trained as cinematographer at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Rome). In 2009, Anna moved to France, thanks to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission Fellowship. She studied film direction at Ateliers Varan (Paris) and participated in Le Fresnoy – Studio National (Tourcoing). Since 2009, her works are screened in festivals and art spaces throughout the world: TIFF Wavelenghts, IFFR Rotterdam, FIC Valdivia, Cinéma du Réel, Torino Film Festival, Ji.hlava Film Festival, LABoral Centro de Arte Gijon, Palais de Tokyo, documenta fifteen Kassel, FRAC Dunkerque, National Gallery of Art Washington DC, Wexner Center for the Arts, Museum of the Moving Image NYC, MAXXI Museum Rome, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Media City Film Festival, Experimenta Film Festival Bangalore, Fracto Film Festival, Documenta Madrid, Punto de Vista, L’alternativa among others... In 2018, BEYOND THE ONE received the A. Mekas Award at Experimenta Film Festival (Bangalore) and at Terre di Cinema (Tremblay), as well as the Special Mention at Cinéma du Réel (Paris). In 2020, AL LARGO received the Special Jury Award at Torino Film Festival. Her films are preserved by the archives Cineteca di Bologna, Cineteca di Roma and BnF Paris. Retrospectives of her works were guested at VariaVision/Volksbühne Berlin and at Wolf Kino Berlin in 2019, as well as at Mostra del Cinema di Pesaro in 2022. Her films are also visible on online platforms such as MUBI, DAfilms, Tënk. She was jury member for Torino Film Festival (Italiana.doc) in 2018. As invited artist, she run courses at Srishti School of Art Bangalore and University of Göttingen. She was artist in residence at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, CLEA Dunkerque, Bibliothèque National de France - Fondation Del Duca - Villa Médicis Rome. Since 2013, Marziano lives in Berlin and in Padua.
