Biography

Letícia Simões (Salvador, 1988). Graduated in Communication at PUC-Rio; studied Screenwriting and Documentary at the London Academy of Film, Media and TV and Visual Arts at the London Art Academy. Letícia holds a Master's degree in Essay Cinema from EICTV (Cuba) and a Master's degree in Contemporary Studies of Arts from UFF (Brazil). She is a PhD researcher in Communication and Information from UFRGS and a PhD Student in Literary, Cultural and Interartistic Studies from University of Porto, Portugal. Her field of work studies the relationship between image and text through the axes of memory, gender and social history, creative writing for film and television and intersections between cinema, self-performance and literature. As a director and screenwriter, she has the documentaries "Bruta Aventura em Versos", "Tudo vai ficar da cor que você quiser" and "O Chalé é uma Ilha Batida de Vento e Chuva", a trilogy about Brazilian marginal poetry; “Home”, an autofiction essay; and “Knots”. As a TV screenwriter, she was part of the script rooms for the series: “Maria Bonita”, (Star +), “Cangaço Novo” and “Modern Love Brazil” (Amazon); “Forrobodó”, (SBT Nordeste), “Meninas do Benfica” (Canal Brasil), “Caixa Postal”, “Caixas Mágicas” and “República da Poesia” (Canal Curta!); and developed the series “Landing”, for Latitude Audiovisual and “Flash and Bone and Water”, for Gaumont. As a screenwriter, she has written for Hilton Lacerda, Marcelo Gomes, Sérgio Machado, Heloisa Passos, Marcelo Lordello, Roberta Marques, João Miller Guerra & Filipa Reis, Zé Filipe Costa and João Miguel. As a script consultant, she was present in projects by Safira Moreira, Elisa Pessoa, Camila Dutervil, Mariah Teixeira, Rafael Todeschini, Zienhe Castro and Elisa Pessoa, among other directors. She wrote three poetry books: "People from whom I stole phrases" (Editora 7 Letras), "from here, in 1976, I waved to you", (Editora Patuá) and "Before crossing the Atlantic" (Editora Urutau, Brazil/ Portugal) She also wrote for Granta magazine (Brazil/Portugal/England), in the “Cinema” edition, and for the SESC and Carta Capital magazines, in several editions. As part of film festival juries, she collaborated in the 8th Olhar de Cinema, the IV Festival Cinema Universitário de Pernambuco, the XII Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife and the 11o Olhar de Cinema. She was the curator of the II Carneiros and Tamandaré Film Festival and the 9th Pan-Amazonian Film Festival. Letícia is part of Incubadora Paradiso, ABRA, ABD/PE, AIM (Portugal) and MUTIM (Brazil/Portugal).
