TorinoFilmLab’s scriptwriting programme for fiction feature films in early stages of development will kick off its new edition in March 2021 and it will be carried on until the TFL Meeting Event 2021, next November.
ScriptLab welcomes 20 projects that work in 5 groups, each guided by a tutor with wide experience as a script consultant. In addition – a story editor trainee who works side by side with the tutor – completes every group. This year fine crew of tutors of 2021, led by the Head of Studies Eva Svenstedt Ward (Sweden), will feature:
Philippe Barrière (France), for the second year in a row. Philippe has been working internationally, since his participation in ScriptLab 2014, as a story editor trainee. He co-wrote "Made in Bangladesh" by Rubaiyat Hossain (Toronto IFF 2019), recipient of the TFL Audience Design Fund 2018. Philippe teaches scriptwriting in Paris, and works for several script development workshops, such as Le Groupe Ouest, La Scénaristerie and Pustnik. He is also a script editor for the BFI London Film Festival.
Also from France, ScriptLab welcomes back Isabelle Fauvel. After gathering experience as a producer, she created Initiative Film in 1993: the first company dedicated to film development. She holds talks regularly in events such as the Crossroads Forum of Thessaloniki, Sofia Meeting and within the Toronto International Film Festival. She works as an expert for MFI (Mediterranean Film Institute), for ACE Producers and for a large number of Euromed programmes and has been regularly collaborating with TorinoFilmLab over the past 10 years.
Another long-time collaborator, Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, will join the ScriptLab team of tutors in 2021. The Swedish story editor and scriptwriter worked with filmmakers from around the world (Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, China etc.) at international labs including Sundance, Biennale College – Cinema and Open Doors. She wrote and co-produced the political thriller "Call Girl", and writes for both film and TV (including Netflix). She is also a Member of the Swedish Drama Union and the European Film Academy, and co-founder of The Write Retreat.
One more TFL habitué, Razvan Radulescu, is Romanian scriptwriter, novelist and film director. He studied Philology at the University of Bucharest and Opera Directing at the National Music Academy of Bucharest. He debuted in literature in 1995 and has written two novels. As a scriptwriter, he has collaborated with numerous directors such as Cristi Puiu, Radu Muntean and Cristian Mungiu, among others. Between 2014 and 2020, he has taught Dramaturgy for Film at the Karlsruhe Academy of Arts and Design.
Finally, we are glad to introduce Spanish script consultant and lecturer Ana Sanz Magallón, who will collaborate with TorinoFilmLab for the very first time. With a specialization in film from UCLA, Ana has been in the field for the past 25 years, working as a freelance analyst and story editor for various production companies and institutions across Europe and Latin America. She has worked on the analysis of over a thousand scripts and has participated in the development of thirty released TV series and feature films, including four winners of the Spanish Academy Awards (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best New Director). She is the author of the book "Cuentalo bien – Common Sense applied to Stories”. A special welcome to Ana!
